I have a confession. I work in recruitment and I'm responsible for onboarding successful applicants into the care sector. I had to pull the plug on one person because not only did her reference reveal some VERY unpleasant things about her that she'd tried to bury in her application, but she'd been a thoroughly rude little madam to me on the phone. (Tip: don't be rude to people you are hoping will give you a job.) We withdrew our job offer, but when I came to write the withdrawal letter, I couldn't help but notice her birthday was only a week or so off. So having printed and signed the letter, I set it aside a few days... and posted it so that it would arrive just in time to wreck her birthday.
